Beschreibung

Während in Reinckens Hortus musicus die Viola da Gamba zumeist im Bassregister verbleibt und häufig die Continuostimme verdoppelt, bietet Buxtehude der Viola da Gamba reichhaltigere Aufgaben: Gelegentlich doppelt sie die Continuostimme oder diminuiert sie vielmehr und bildet mit der Violine realiter einen zweistimmigen Satz, dann wiederum musiziert die Gambe völlig unabhängig von der Continuostimme im Altregister, so dass mit Violine und Cembalo eine dreistimmige Stimmführung entsteht. Unsere Ausgabe besteht aus einer Partitur der Originalstimmen, drei Stimmenheften und einer weiteren Partitur mit einer Aussetzung des Generalbasses.

Anyone who has heard the CDs will know that the music is absolutely top-rate; now it can be played with no notational hindrances, though it is by no means easy.
